It's in the news lately. I cannot understand but hey, it seems to be a new buzzword. And it's equated with a "disorder". That cracks me up. :D
For as long as I have played drums, I have drawn outlines in the ether and learned to play within the confines of something as fragile as a cloud formation. In other words, I draw the outlines around that which is a song.
It's something I have always known, and that is to "play for the moment and play for the song". Of course, as any teenager/early 20's drummer would, I had to go through the pissing contest of "I can play better than you"....BAH! There were actually two camps- one side was the Neil Peart fans, and the other the Jeff Porcaro people. It was either "YYZ" or "Rosanna". That was fine by me- I sought to create the YYZanna". I suppose I did of sorts.
Man, there's kids who can play RINGS around anything that we seasoned vets can do. (like that VA drum guy) And I actually find myself looking up to them for their accomplishment. The level of dedication that exists is very humbling, because I SURE don't have time to play drums 8 hours a day. As much as I love the instrument, I can only do about 5....unless I have a session THEN a gig, in which I will "play through". Those are long days, LOL.
Eddie Bayers is a drummer that said it best- "We all have one fingerprint, and it is unique enough to discern us from the rest of humanity"...something to that extent. And our individual DNA!! woah, it's just evidence that YOU are YOU and YOU alone. There's nothing that you CAN'T do.
Come back soon. I will be discussing visualizing parking spaces at the downtown gig and how much more often I snag them since watching "The Secret".
