Furthering my interest in Balkan music, I discovered the Legendary 3 Mustaphas 3.

Home of 3 Mustaphas 3

Who were they? What did they want? Where are they now?

"One of the few bands to which you can justifiably apply the over-used adjective, legendary." - FRoots magazine

"3 Mustaphas 3 were extraordinary, trailblazing pioneers and arguably more influential on world roots music-making than better known popularisers like Ry Cooder, Paul Simon and David Byrne." - Rough Guide to World Music

After nearly a decade of furious globe-trotting with a relentless performance schedule only a show-business genius like Uncle Patrel could devise the 3 Mustaphas 3 mysteriously evaporated on a stage in Bristol, England in 1991. For 10 years they remained a whispered legend in the draughty corridors of World Music until Kartini Music in association with Fezco were given permission to access the closely guarded cardboard boxes containing rare live recordings previously unheard even at the time. Mustaphas Hijaz and Sabah Habas made their choices of material and the result is now proudly presented on the CD "Play Musty for Me - Vol. 13". Froots magazine called it "probably their greatest moment on record yet". More information about and song samples from "Play Musty for Me" here. Read the Rough Guide to World Music 3M3 biography here and a recent interview with Hijaz Mustapha.
